Our Story
Black Barn Alpacas began with a shared desire to return to our farming roots. Yussy grew up with horses, while Travis grew up homesteading on a cattle ranch. Together, we dreamed of raising sustainable livestock and building a life connected to the land.
When we discovered alpacas, our curiosity quickly grew into a passion. We fell in love with their gentle nature, sustainable qualities, and exceptionally beautiful fiber. What began as a farm in Texas eventually brought us to Finksburg, Maryland, where our vision continues to grow.
Today, Black Barn Alpacas combines agriculture, education, and community through immersive agritourism experiences, on-site and off-site alpaca boutique shoppes, and a dedicated breeding program focused on producing exceptional gray and black alpacas.

To My Dearest Maverick,
You were my heart horse. You came to me when I needed you the most and you helped heal the grief of losing my beloved father. You brought me endless joy everyday, being with you or watching your joyful (and usually gas powered) shenanigans.
You were an artist. Not only through your ability to cake mud over every bit of white on you, or your beautiful snow angels, but also through your artful escapes. You thoughtfully plowed through countless fences and gates to reach greener pastures or your girlfriends next door.
You touched so many others. Your best friend Wyatt, countless visitors who stopped to love you, and even kind neighbors who helped catch you during your many unannounced escapades.
Now, I have a broken heart and an empty pasture. The pasture that was once so full of life is now a quiet reminder of your devastating departure.
I will miss you everyday, Maverick. Thank you for the beautiful years we spent together. Thank you for all your sweet kisses. I was truly blessed to have you in my life and will forever carry you with me. Until I see you again, my sweet, baby boy. I love you so, so much

From stunning blacks and greys to a peachy fawn and our very first Pinto Princess, our pastures are filled with little personalities stealing our hearts every day!
