Our Story
Maryland’s Black Barn Alpacas Ranch is owned by the animal-loving couple Travis and Yussy McManus. Travis was raised on a cattle ranch, and Yussy grew up riding horses—cementing their love of farm life from a young age. The couple lives on the ranch and looks forward to greeting the alpaca herd every morning with nose boops (and an extra handful or two of food).
Travis manages the farm team, and Yussy leads the Y Interiors design team, dreaming up home goods made with genuine alpaca fleece. Together, they intend to expand Black Barn Alpacas, delivering well-bred animals, quality fleece products, and unforgettable experiences. Take it from the experts; there is nothing more rewarding than being able to snuggle up to an alpaca every day!
Alpaca Breeding Program
At Black Barn Alpacas, we are creating a premier alpaca breeding program focused on producing show-quality or “typey” black and gray alpacas through sustainable and caring farming practices. By way of strategic, sustainable, and compassionate breeding, we aim to produce fine-quality fleece, champion alpacas, and a happy herd.

After we shear our fuzzy alpaca friends, we turn fleece harvests into one-of-a-kind apparel, home goods, and accessories. Join us August 11–16 for our Meet & Treat Event and help make a difference for local students. For just $10 admission with the donation of new school supplies, you`ll enjoy a day filled with alpaca snuggles, feeding our friendly herd, fresh country air, and memories your family will cherish—all while helping fill backpacks for children in our local schools.
Every notebook, box of crayons, backpack, pencil, or glue stick you donate is more than just a school supply. It`s encouragement. It`s confidence. It`s a reminder that our community cares.
So pack a picnic, bring your school supply donations, and spend a day making memories while making an impact.

New start time: 10:30 AM—a little extra time for slow summer mornings!
Pack a lunch or your favorite snack and stay a little longer after storytime.
Let the kids burn off some energy in our Kiddie Corral before heading home for the perfect afternoon nap.
Of course, you`ll still enjoy engaging stories, bubbles, barnyard fun, and visits with our friendly alpacas. It`s everything you love about Storytime—with a few extra reasons to join us!

Our wittle baby isn’t so wittle anymore! 🥹
Our beloved bottle baby, Mazuki, officially turned 1 year old last month! While she’s long since traded her bottle for hay and pasture adventures, we’ll never forget those sweet bottle-feeding days.
These days, Mazuki still comes running to greet us with the same excitement... she just has one small expectation now: carrots! 🥕
Watching her grow from a tiny bottle baby into the beautiful young alpaca she is today has been such a joy, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has followed her journey.
