Our Story
Maryland’s Black Barn Alpacas Ranch is owned by the animal-loving couple Travis and Yussy McManus. Travis was raised on a cattle ranch, and Yussy grew up riding horses—cementing their love of farm life from a young age. The couple lives on the ranch and looks forward to greeting the alpaca herd every morning with nose boops (and an extra handful or two of food).
Travis manages the farm team, and Yussy leads the Y Interiors design team, dreaming up home goods made with genuine alpaca fleece. Together, they intend to expand Black Barn Alpacas, delivering well-bred animals, quality fleece products, and unforgettable experiences. Take it from the experts; there is nothing more rewarding than being able to snuggle up to an alpaca every day!
Alpaca Breeding Program
At Black Barn Alpacas, we are creating a premier alpaca breeding program focused on producing show-quality or “typey” black and gray alpacas through sustainable and caring farming practices. By way of strategic, sustainable, and compassionate breeding, we aim to produce fine-quality fleece, champion alpacas, and a happy herd.

We are a real working alpaca ranch, producing some of the finest quality fleece around. After we shear our fuzzy alpaca friends, we turn fleece harvests into one-of-a-kind apparel, home goods, and accessories. This weekend is the perfect time to visit: Drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm today through Sunday to meet, greet, and treat the alpacas.
And with the weather turning, we’re excited to start booking our one-of-a-kind Alpaca Walks again! There’s nothing like a peaceful walk through the woods with your very own fluffy hiking buddy!

Alpaca Adventure Camp – Day 3 Recap! 🦙✨
We kicked things off with a nature walk and spotted the first signs of wine berries—some almost ready to pick! Campers restocked feed bags, tried the carrot test (Declan, Allie, Skye, and more gave two ears up!), and got creative with alpaca scratch art and bracelet-making.
We also learned about alpaca fleece colors, spent time journaling, and, of course, had some quality cria time.

🦙 We started the day saying good morning to our alpacas and got to see a cria bottle feeding! Campers recorded their alpaca’s birthdate, dam, and sire, then dove into alpaca facts with a read-aloud and Q&A session.
We cooled off with belly baths for the alpacas, made suncatchers, played water games, and learned some classic yarn tricks like Jacob’s Ladder. 🧶
After lunch, we wrapped up with more alpaca time and a few fun group games (yes, they may have teamed up on Ms. Rachel). ☀️
